DISTINCTIVES

Curricular and Community DISTINCTIVES

We believe Christ is central to everything. By him and for him all things were made. He was before all things, and in him all things hold together. And this includes not just creation and salvation, but also math, science, literature, music, geography, astronomy - indeed, all things. Colossians 1:15-20, Hebrews 1:3

In classical education, we make a big deal about the "Great Books"  - those books that have stood the test of time and shaped Western civilization. And while we love the Great Books, the greatest and most important book is the Bible, the very word of God.  A top priority will be given to reading, outlining, understanding, and applying the Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, Matthew 4:4, Proverbs 6:23

Learning is reflected through the assessment of mastery, not reductionistic GPA's. Classical education uses fewer assignments with more rounds of revision, clarification of understanding, and development of skills. In addition, we focus on portfolio-based transcripts emphasizing the student’s Curriculum Vitae (or, path of life) over class rankings. This approach counteracts the "cram, test, and forget" paradigm so common to progressive education. Proverbs 1:5, Proverbs 22:29, Daniel 1:17

The Bible presents to us the world in all its variegated form. You can't read one topic without it addressing other topics. For this reason, we approach teaching through intentional integration. Integration means weaving together disciplines like history, literature, art, and theology, helping students see the world through a unified lens. We incorporate different modes of learning (linguistic, numeric, and spatial) taught through the seven liberal arts (Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric, Arithmetic, Music, Geometry, Astronomy). Doing so allows us to teach academically, artistically, athletically, and altruistically while cultivating broad theological and philosophical understanding and practice in students. Genesis 1:1, Psalm 111:2, Romans 1:20

Deeply rooted in a biblical vision for community, Kyrie Christian Academy is built on the foundations of relationship, hospitality, and shared purpose. To this end, we seek to partner with parents to ensure education is a holistic, fueled by the personal investment and volunteerism of our staff, families, and students. We navigate our life together  prioritizing accountability and grace in every difficult conversation to maintain a culture of integrity. We seek to make our facilities and resources a place of hospitality and a blessing to the surrounding community. Deuteronomy 6:6-7, Matthew 18:15-16

Teaching is at part of Jesus' call to disciple the nations. To this end, we seek to expand access to Christian education for all. We seek to start campuses, sponsor sister schools in under-resourced areas, provide opportunities for short-term service trips, and provide low or no cost Christian distance education (for children of Christian missionaries and active U.S. Military personnel stationed overseas). Matthew 25:40, 28:19-20
